Brand Focus- Scent & Seed
To kick off my blog series I thought I would do a brand focus post on the first brand I decided to stock in Bea & Aud, my own, Scent & Seed plant pot candles.
Scent & Seed started 3 years ago with a friend, we were getting frustrated with the amount of glass we were both recycling form our candle habit and wondered if there was something we could create that was better for the planet. Could we make candles in plant pots so you could reuse and repurpose them?
After a lot of research and talking to friends and family we learned that more people were leaning towards soy wax candles and moving away from traditional paraffin wax, people preferred the idea of a natural wax. Net we set about finding a plant pot company that had the same ethical stance that we did- we found PTMD ay a Paris trade show, and whilst we could buy similar pots at cheaper prices from other companies, they didn’t have the paperwork to back up their claims about working with factories that were safe and provided a living wage for their staff. You would think would be a given but in manufacturing sadly it isn’t.
So having chosen our wax and our plant pot company and the long rigorous safety and scent testing started. Eight months later we launched Scent & Seed and instantly found a loyal customer base who understood what we were trying to do.
Just before the first lockdown in 2020 I bought Charlie out of the company as she was super busy with her web design business (this is one of her fabulous websites!).
Over the last few years I’ve added new scents to the range, expanded the number of plant pot styles available, visited several large Summer and Christmas Fairs and also added a handful of stockists to the mix too (including of course Bea & Aud Lifestyle!).
Just like when we first launched every candle is hand poured from my home workshop in Buckinghamshire, using soy wax and vegan fragrances along with a cotton wick.
The current scents available are:
LIME BASIL AND MANDARIN- An enticing, mouth-watering medley of Sicilian lime and fresh bergamot with a vivid heart bursting with mandarins, aquatic white florals, peppery basil and caraway seeds. Base notes include soft, velvety patchouli and sharp green vetiver.
PEAR & FREESIA- This fragrance has fresh top notes of bergamot, lemon and pear with soft notes of magnolia, orchid, rose and muguet creating the soft heart, followed by a base of musks, dry amber and a touch of patchouli.
PEONY & BLUSH SUEDE- This scent is perfect for anyone that loves a fruity floral fragrance. With notes of peony and red apple, followed by hearty notes of rose, jasmine and carnation. The fragrance is completed with soft notes of violet and plum and rich notes of musks and dry amber.
PLUM AND RHUBARB- A vibrant, fruity blend of juicy black plum and fresh rhubarb mixed with ripe pear and sweet peach. If you enjoy fresh, fruity scents then you will absolutely love this fragrance!
ROCKSALT- A spellbinding floral marine scent where uplifting shades of seaweed and green are invigorated by touches of cyclamen and water lily. The base of the fragrance, reminiscent of sparkling salt crusted driftwood is warmed by amber, patchouli and musk.
STARRY NIGHT- An exotic mix of citrus fruit, woody plants and honey like aromatic musk. Starry Night- a heady fragrance reminiscent of warm Summer evenings, eating alfresco under the stars.
CUBAN- Don’t be put off by the mention of the word tobacco, this warm delicious scent smells like an expensive aftershave. It’s reminiscent of smokey woods and warm rich leather.
Once you have used your candle up it is super easy to remove the wick and clean out the pot to plant up a house plant or succulent.
